“When I first
arrived in New York City in the early nineties I noticed all the
iron gates on windows, doors and entryways. There was something
very dark but ornate about them. They swirled and undulated, they
were hard but soft, they offered resistance but at the same time
allowed entry. All these things spoke to me about the Baroque.
I felt they had to be painted.” — Jaime
Arredondo
